The Goaso Diocesan Development Organization (GODIDO) continues to make significant strides in transforming lives across the Diocese, especially within the Ahafo Region and the three districts which form part of the Ashanti Region. The Organization anchors its mission in holistic human development—advancing initiatives in education, health, and social empowerment with a focus on dignity, sustainability, and Catholic social values.
1. Education
Over the years, the diocese has provided educational facilities to support the efforts of the government. The Diocese now has 75 Kindergarten, 76 Basic Schools (1 - 6), 59 Junior High Schools, one Girls’ Senior High School (OLA) at Kenyasi, St. Joseph’s College of Education at Bechem, and St. John of God College of Health, Duayaw Nkwanta. The current major challenge facing Ghana in general and the region in particular is the mass involvement of the youth especially boys of school going age in illegal mining (Galamsey). In order to address this problem, the diocese has completed preparatory works for the opening of a senior high school named St. Pope John Paul II Senior High School at Bechem.
Tackling the growing menace of plastic and rubber waste, the Diocese—through its Development Organization—has launched a sustainable waste management campaign. With Goaso as the central recycling hub, the initiative focuses on the collection, sorting, and crashing of plastic waste into pellets. Collection points have been established in key towns like Goaso, Mim, Bechem, Kenyasi, and Duayaw Nkwanta, where parishes and youth groups play leading roles in the collection of the waste. This initiative has been made possible with the support of City Waste Recycling (CWR).
This effort not only promotes a cleaner environment but also empowers local youth and women through job creation. Rooted in Laudato Si’, this initiative reflects the Diocese’s commitment to care for creation and promote responsible stewardship.
