Speech by Hon. George Yaw Boakye, Ahafo Regional Minister

SPEECH DELIVERED BY HON. GEORGE YAW BOAKYE - AHAFO REGIONAL MINISTER AT THE INAUGURATION OF THE GOASO DIOCESAN DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION (GODIDO) AND THE LAUNCHING OF ITS FIVE-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN ON 4TH OCTOBER, 2024 AT THE DIOCESAN PASTORAL AND SOCIAL CENTRE AT GOASO

INTRODUCTION
Today, we are not only witnessing the birth of an institution, but we are also launching a mission, a mission that holds the potential to transform lives, empower communities, and uplift the most vulnerable among us. I am honoured to be part of this important event, and I say kudos to all who have worked tirelessly to bring this organization to life.

The Goaso Diocesan Development Organization (GODIDO) is an embodiment of a bold vision for our region. It seeks to lead the charge in socio-economic empowerment, focusing on holistic development that touches every aspect of human life. I am confident that your commitment to this mission will not only bring progress but will also ignite hope in the hearts of those who need it most.

THE MISSION AND VISION: A CALL TO SERVE
Your mission of "Holistic Development through Socio-economic Empowerment" is both timely and necessary. It aligns perfectly with the aspirations of many who long for a better tomorrow. Holistic development means leaving no stone unturned; it means addressing the physical, social, economic, and emotional needs of people. This comprehensive approach is crucial in our time when challenges are interconnected and complex.

Your vision is to help the poor and vulnerable live in freedom, peace, and dignity. This vision is not just an aspiration; it is a moral imperative. It reminds us of our collective responsibility to ensure that no one is left behind in the journey toward progress especially in this part of our region where a lot of people live in poverty. The most vulnerable among us lacks access to basic services. With your guidance and support, I believe that the people within the catchment area of Goaso Diocese will be able to reclaim their dignity and pursue a future filled with possibilities.

THEMATIC AREAS
The thematic areas of water, security, sanitation, hygiene, waste management, agricultural development, and sustainable livelihoods are the building blocks of any prosperous society. Access to clean water, proper sanitation, and efficient waste management are not just conveniences, they are fundamental human rights.

PROGRAMMES
The decision to introduce programs focusing on access to quality education and healthcare is commendable. Education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and it is through education that we can truly empower the next generation to become the architects of their own future. By providing access to quality education, you are sowing the seeds of knowledge and enlightenment, ensuring that the children of today can become the leaders of tomorrow.

Healthcare, similarly, is a pillar of development. Without good health, no individual can truly realize their full potential. Strengthening access to quality healthcare will not only save lives but also improve productivity and foster a healthier, more resilient population.

THE FIVE - YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN: 2024 TO 2029
As we look ahead to the next five years, GODIDO has laid out an ambitious strategic plan, covering the period from 2024 to 2029. This plan reflects a clear understanding of the needs and aspirations of all people within the catchment area of GODIDO.

A CALL TO ACTION
While today marks the beginning of a new chapter, we must all acknowledge that this journey requires the support and collaboration of many. I urge all stakeholders, government agencies, Nananom, private sector players, community leaders, and development partners to join hands with GODIDO to bring the needed development in Ahafo region and the Ahafo area in the Ashanti region. The challenges we face are too great for any one entity to tackle alone. Together, we can collaborate and accelerate the achievement of our common goals. Let us not forget that development is not a one-time event but an ongoing process. It requires continuous effort, dedication, and the willingness to adapt to changing circumstances. In that regard, I trust that the leadership of this organization will remain innovative, transparent, and accountable as they steer the ship toward achieving the goals of the strategic plan.

CONCLUSION
As we officially inaugurate the Goaso Diocesan Development Organization (GODIDO), let us all take a moment to reflect on the enormous potential that lies ahead. The work that begins today will impact generations to come. It will shape the future of our communities, lift people out of poverty, and bring hope to the marginalized.
To the leadership and staff of this new organization; I say, the road ahead may be challenging, but the reward is worth it. Every step you take, every project you implement, will bring us closer to a future where freedom, peace, and dignity are not just dreams, but realities for all.

Let us all be united in this cause, determined to build a better Diocese, a better Region, and ultimately, a better Nation. Thank You, may God bless Goaso Diocese and May God bless our country Ghana.
